Bridges to somewhere.
Island bridges crossed cultures and connected Hawaii to the world. Downstream, substantial spans of concrete and steel carried fruits of Hawaii’s labor by locomotive high overhead. Upstream, handmade Swinging Bridges made of wood and cable created unlikely gathering places for people of different cultures to mix across Hawaii’s rugged natural land divides.

Lovingly restored by community members and the Kauai Historical Society, The Swinging Bridge is historically significant in the areas of transportation and ethnic heritage for its association with the sugar plantation history and multicultural heritage of this community. It is a fine example of history worth saving. Local Historical Societies need your help, please contribute.
